The night of Rayna’s 1993 abduction, the light blue 1980 Datsun B210 station wagon belonging to her brother-in-law Ray McCarty was seen by several witnesses near the place where she was seized and on country roads near the pond where her body was submerged. The distinctive orange rust spots and loud muffler made it especially memorable. But at Jason’s trial, the prosecutor wanted the jury to believe the witnesses saw a gray 1986 Buick Century instead. It looked nothing like the Datsun, AND as Jason’s alleged accomplice tried to tell the detectives, it was “broke down” in the family’s pole barn and impossible to drive.
